NYAN Robotics - State Championship

NYAN won all 5 matches and was the only undefeated team, and was #1 going into the semi-finals.
And then won the semi-finals, finals, and the Championship.

In the process, NYAN had the highest score in Illinois this season (589!), and had 8 matches
from this tournament score in the current top 10.

The announcer indicated the 45 teams here were narrowed from 178 teams
from high schools all over Illinois, and that there were 5,000+ teams worldwide.

NYAN continues to be in the top 1% of the World teams. This tournament raised us to #18 in the world (out of 5000+).

And after this tournament, NYAN has the top 4 scores in Illinois (i.e. 1, 2, 3, and 4) on the top 10 list

Wow!

Although unexpectedly:
1.) Matches were tough. Teams were scoring higher than anticipated.Our division had a lot of top teams.
2.) A team, after competing with us 5 times during the season, since the last tournament(!)... "knocked off" our design and strategy(!),
and ended up doing pretty well with it, even winning a design award.
3.) some top teams did not advance. This was puzzling and disappointing.
4.) we did not win any awards, despite our design, strategy, and refinement being the basis of the team that did win the design award(!),
and despite being the highest scoring robot there. We were also surprised that some other top teams received no awards either.

Thanks to the alumni attending: Kevin, Danny, Eric, and Jake. Who came back from college to support the team, and were there all day

We had 16 in the RV! Also a new record.
